Happy 2008

I am glad to see the back of 2007 as it passes.
As with all Time, it seems to have flown by
until I begin to list the events I am relieved
to be looking back on as opposed to finding the
strength and resources to face.
Here's to 2008.
May the joys of it linger and the challenges be met.

Another Bad Day

I couldn't park my truck today. It was sometime after
the 8-9 A.M. street sweeping on 5th Avenue and before the
end of 8-11 A.M. on the side streets.
I decided to go to PepBoys and have my turn signal lightbulbs relaced...
$4.99 for the bulbs, $15.99 labor.
Sounds like they screw you for the unscrewing and re-screwing ,
but the last time the bulbs blew I tried to replace them myself .
Believe me, I would have paid pretty much anything they asked.

While I was standing in line at the service counter waiting for
Germaine the Technician to finish ministering to my turn signals,
I watched some CNN footage of Benazir Bhutto on the television
mounted above my head.
I was checking out her make-up and head covering
when I realized the scrawling headlines on the bottom of
the screen said "Breaking News".
I can't stop thinking about her today.

Everybody Loves Mele

Our Mele is one of a kind.
A Real Prize.
If she was a book, she'd win The Pulitzer.
On Broadway, she'd win The Tony,
Off Broadway, The Obie.
If she was a song...The Grammy.
If she was a scientific breakthrough,
she'd win The Nobel Prize.
I hope to see her name next year
in The Park Slope 100.
For now, she's just the
Best All Time Beloved Zuzu...
Our Glue...she holds us together.
Actually, She is a gift, more than a prize.

A brief greeting...

I"m Mele, the Samoan one, in case you're wondering. I just wanted to put my two cents in. As a member of the Zuzu's family for 5 years now, I have never had a day where I did not look forward to going to work, did not laugh once I got there, or did not see a smiling face on either side of the counter. I don't know many people who can say that except for my boss and my co-workers. It really can be a wonderful life if you surround yourself with loved ones and beautiful flowers/plants (the cynic in me is rolling her eyes right now). But I have proof! Look at all the photos...

Milk and Amaryllis

Xris(Flatbush Gardener) asked what
this was all about.
We did the flowers for a Wedding
at Bubby's in Dumbo last Saturday December 1.
The Vintage Milk Jugs belong to the Groom
and the couple wanted us to do something
"special" with them.
We experimented with low fat milk and opted
for the richer look of whole milk cut with a
little water.
We don't recommend this if you want to enjoy
the full vase life of the cut Amaryllis.
